Fem van Empel has once again been beaten, and the star of the night in the women's Nacht van Woerden was
Lucinda Brand who stormed away from her rivals in the final lap to win for the first time this fall for
Baloise - Trek Lions.
The famous night event was not too selective at first, but with a diverse set of favourites we were in for an exciting race. Lucinda Brand, Fem van Empel and Blanka Kata Vas looked the strongest in the opening laps but a few riders would join them. A race of attrition followed, without big moves until the 35-minute mark when Lucinda Brand went on the attack, having great form currently.
She was followed by
Marie Schreiber whilst both van Empel and Vas struggled behind, with Inge van der Heijden also in the battle for the podium. It was a final lap dash to the line and Brand put on a masterful ride to take her first win of the season, after two third spots at the start of the season. Schreiber held on for a very impressive second place only a couple seconds behind whilst Fem van Empel was surprisingly defeated once again. Lorena Wiebes took part in the race and was a notable seventh place.
