The organization of the Kiremko Nacht van Woerden has managed to attract another big name with Laurens Sweeck for next Tuesday's World Cup race. The Belgian, number one in last year's UCI world rankings, will cross swords with Lars van der Haar, among others, in the Dutch cross.
The 29-year-old Sweeck started his cyclo-cross season on a bad note: he suffered a muscle tear in a fall during the Exact Cross in Beringen. Sweeck therefore had to miss out on the first World Cup of the season in Waterloo, but things now seem to be moving in the right direction for the Belgian as he should make his return to competition this weekend in the Superprestige cyclo-cross of Overijse.
Sweeck's management has now confirmed that the crosser will be in action in Woerden. Sweeck had never been at the start of Overijse's evening cross before. He can expect a tough battle with home favorite Lars van der Haar, who has won the past six (!) editions of the race.
Pim Ronhaar (third in the Waterloo World Cup), Kevin Kuhn, Felipe Orts, Ryan Kamp, Joris Nieuwenhuis and Jens Adams are also listed for the start of the 21st Kiremko Nacht van Woerden.
