Hopefully the track will be a bit better - van der Poel concerned about Val di Sole track conditions

As the weekend approaches, all eyes on the cyclocross world will be geared towards the Val di Sole World Cup race. The 10th of it's kind, the Italian track is one of the most unique, and Mathieu van der Poel has commented on the current conditions.

On the Cyclocross World Cup's Instagram page the Dutchman commented on the snow present on course this Friday in Val di Sole: “It's very tricky. It's something we're not used to anymore, but it's cool to be here." Van der Poel wanted to be present himself in this race after missing it last year, and with the end of the Alpecin-Deceuninck training camp earlier in the week, he could travel to the Alps to try out a different kind of track.

This Friday he and many other riders did a recon of the circuit and found difficult and slippery conditions. "Hopefully tomorrow, when more people have been on the course, the track will be a bit better," he said. With the men's race coming last, it is possible that the ruts will be more set in - some work to clean up a layer of snow could also be expected from the organizers.

“I made good memories here on the mountain bike. Hopefully I can do the same on the cross bike soon," van der Poel commented. In 2018 and 2019 he's won the XCO World Cup races in the Italian ski resort, and he will be searching success now in a different discipline.
