Eli Iserbyt's first cross weeks were probably far from what the Belgian champion imagined it. The rider of Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal received a lot of criticism on social media after the stomping incident in the Exact Cross of Beringen. In addition, Iserbyt had a cup of beer thrown over him by a spectator during the Koppenbergcross - probably some sort of late payback for the mentioned incident? How does he deal with all this?
"That is also something that is incidental and that you have to learn to deal with," Iserbyt responds in front of the camera of WielerFlits. "You have to give all that a place. That takes a lot of energy. I am therefore certainly happy with the form that I have now, because that is not obvious. Many riders would end up in a downward spiral, which would make things very bad. I always try to stay strong, both physically and mentally."
The Belgian champion was confronted with a bizarre incident last Friday during the Koppenbergcross. A spectator threw a cup of beer in the face of the leader of Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal during full racing. The beer thrower was immediately escorted off the terrain by the police, but that is not all. The organization of the Koppenbergcross, Golazo, and Iserbyt's team Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal are taking legal action.
"What happened on the Koppenberg is the lowest and worst thing that can happen at a race," says Iserbyt. "Then it is up to us to respond appropriately. There are now almost five complaints filed against the person in question. A lawyer of ours was also involved. That is certainly something that should not happen again in the future. It has also caused a shock effect for me, which means that it is certainly no longer obvious."
