Worrying heart palpitations keep Tim Wellens out of Canadian classics, return to racing is undetermined

Tim Wellens has not travelled to Canada this week as expected, as he has been diagnosed with worrying heart palpitations. Although the health issue is not fully understood, it has caused Wellens to miss out on racing for an undetermined period of time.

According to Het Belang van Limburg, the Belgian has been put under tests which have revealed the health issue. This comes in the aftermath of some worrying months where the Belgian rider has underperformed, which led to the need of performing tests to understand the underlying conditions.

This has proved to be another blow to Lotto Soudal's ambitions of remaining at World Tour. In search of UCI points, the two one-day races have a large amount of points available, in two races where Wellens has performed in the past.

The team will go without a clear leader, however seeing his recent results at the Deutschland Tour, it is expected that the Belgian team will be led by Sylvain Moniquet.
