The coach who brought about the success for triathletes Kristian Blummenfelt and Gustav Iden, Olav Aleksander Bu, is brought to Uno-X Mobility starting from November. At the moment, there is no hint that Blummenfelt should change his mind once again and turn professional with the Norwegian team.
"Bu comes in as 'head coach'. The idea is that he should come in with new and fresh eyes, pick up stones and see what can be done differently. He has a different kind of experience and is an extremely wise guy," says Uno-X Mobility manager Thor Hushovd to TV 2.
Bu has had enormous success as a coach for Kristian Blummenfelt and Gustav Iden. Bu is a trained engineer and his scientific approach to training has earned him the nickname "Petter Smart" in the triathlon community.
"The challenge with the scientific perspective on training is that it must be transferred to people. Riders are different and are triggered by different things. Some like the more scientific approach while others have a more natural approach to sport. I believe there is room for both types, but it must be facilitated," suggests Max's cycling expert Henrik Evensen.
This approach is something that Hushovd emphasized when he chose to employ Bu. "We in cycling must also be careful not to be too much in our own 'cycling bubble'," says Hushovd.
Westerner Bu starts in Uno-X on 1 November. "The first thing I will do is to get to know the people who work on the team from before. And then there won't be big and revolutionary changes when I come in. But I hope to be able to contribute with part of the research we have done in the last ten years, and the network we have, to be able to raise the quality a little bit of what is already being done well," says Bu to TV 2.
As of the moment, there is no plan for Kristian Blummenfelt to follow his coach and join the team. But Hushovd suggests that there is nothing in the world if triathletes want to train with Uno-X.
