The statue of Federico Martin Bahamontes in Toledo is vandalized again

The city of Toledo has once again been shaken by a sad incident of vandalism that has dismayed residents and visitors. On this occasion, the statue of the legendary cyclist Federico Martín Bahamontes has been found vandalized in the Miradero area, a symbolic and highly trafficked area in the province.

Municipal authorities confirmed the act of vandalism, noting that the statue was found ripped from its base and overturned on the ground this Friday morning. This unfortunate event is not isolated, as the sculpture had been the subject of a similar incident shortly after its unveiling in May 2018.

The figure of Bahamontes, known as the 'Eagle of Toledo', continues to be a source of admiration and pride for the city, despite his death on August 8 at the age of 95. His sporting legacy, as the first Spaniard to win the Tour de France and his outstanding ability as a climber, consecrate him as a legend in the history of cycling. During his active career from 1954 to 1965, Bahamontes achieved an impressive 74 victories, leaving an indelible mark on the world of sport.
