Miguel Ángel López is waiting for the CAS to rule after filing a complaint against the Astana team for wrongful dismissal. The Colombian was linked to a case of drug trafficking in Spain, and the consequences have led to the Kazakh team firing the climber.
The UCI has withheld 1.7 million euros to the Kazakh team in case the complaint of the current Team Medellin - EPM rider comes to fruition recently. Supermán López is completing a great campaign in America, with victories in virtually all the races he has participated in, including the GC win in the Vuelta a San Juan where he faced World Tour competition. Evidently, he has fallen short of Team Medellin and hopes to return to Europe to a WorldTour team as soon as possible.
Should the UCI prove him right before the end of the season, there are seven WorldTour teams that still have the possibility of including another rider in their ranks.
World Tour teams:
- Trek Segafredo
- Soudal Quick-Step
- Jumbo-Visma
- Intermarche Circus Wanty
- AG2R Citroen
- Groupama FDJ
- Bahrain Victorious
We are not claiming that any of these squads are interested in Miguel Angel Lopez, but they are the ones that would have the option to sign him in 2023 if the UCI were to give him the nod.
