Following the rise in popularity of East African cycling, another rider has surged into the top ranks, as Ethiopian climber
Welay Berhe has signed a three-year contract with
Team BikeExchange - Jayco.
Team manager Brent Copeland has said that "we have seen his training files and performances in the races this season, and we believe we have found a huge talent for the future." The Ethiopian rider is riding with the EF Education-NIPPO Development team this season, and has signed a three-year deal with the Australian team.

Berhe has ridden to some sucsess this year that has brought him considerable attention, winning two races in Switzerland and the KOM classification at the Istrian Spring Trophy. He's ridden to a seventh place in the under-23 Giro della Valle d'Aosta and has mostly been described as a talented climber, where he will look to evolve in the coming years.
"I truly believe this team will be perfect for me in order to keep growing and learning. I feel very proud and motivated for this new adventure and I can’t wait to begin. I am going to give all I have in order to make it a success and I hope to pay the team back for all the trust they are giving me," Berhe said in a press release.
