Patxi Vila has been the performance manager of
Movistar Team for the last four seasons and a few days ago it was confirmed his departure from the telephone team and his return to
BORA - hansgrohe, where he already worked between 2017 and 2019.
It is surprising that someone who has worked in a squad that has barely managed to evolve its riders in recent years should quickly get a job in one of the best teams in the world, which has just been joined by none other than Primoz Roglic.
This is less surprising after reading
Matteo Jorgenson's statements in Relevo in which he hints that Patxi Vila Movistar Team has not let him implement a new work methodology:
"Patxi Vila has spent four years in the team, basically trying to change things. And, in four years, very little has really changed in the way he wanted. And that's because the team has been around for a long time."
We do not know the working methodology of Movistar Team, but seeing that riders like Enric Mas, Iván García Cortina or Alex Aranburu have evolved very little in recent seasons, it is not surprising the statements of a Jorgenson who will ride for Jumbo-Visma next year after paying out of pocket this year the training that, according to him, have made him evolve as a cyclist;
