"Of course I will try to win" - Van der Poel out to regain Dutch national jersey

On Sunday the 25th of June, Mathieu van der Poel will once again be at the start line of the Dutch National Championships. A former two-time winner of the national road race, the 28-year-old wants to reclaim the red white and blue jersey.

Helping the Alpecin-Deceuninck star will be his brother David van der Poel, Ramon Sinkeldam and Oscar Riesebeek giving him a strong support team. And after he DNF'd at last year's race, Mathieu van der Poel has some unfinished business, some wrongs to right.

“The Dutch Championship is a difficult race to win,” says Van der Poel. “There are teams that have a lot of riders at the start. It is then very difficult to race against them on your own. But we will try and see what Sunday brings us."

"Of course, I will try to win," he concludes. "But I don't think that's a secret."
