In a crash-marred finale to stage 4 of the 2023 Tour de France, Lidl-Trek's Mads Pedersen was once again left disappointed, finishing in 10th position.
"Pretty shit actually. The boys did really good work today so that was a big upgrade from yesterday, I just don't have the power after such an easy day and then sprinting here," said a visibly frustrated Pedersen in a post-race interview with Eurosport. "All these corners make no sense in the final but it is what it is. We improved on yesterday, now it's onto the Mountains."
Jasper Philipsen was the winner for the second straight day, but multiple crashes in the final kilometre marred the final sprint. Perhaps taking some of his frustration out on the riders, Pedersen was critical.
"People are riding into each other, no one knows they have brakes on their bikes," he says with a sigh. "It's not always easy when the finish is so wide as it is today, so I heard the crash behind me but luckily I don't think we have anyone involved."
