Max Schachmann won't enjoy racing with a Red Bull logo on his jersey for too long as his services at Ralph Denk's team are no longer as valued as both sides would have liked.
But it's not a massive surprise at all. Schachmann's best years in Bora were in the first three years after making a move from Quick-Step at the end of 2018. Among the 30-year-old's greatest success from the period are two overall triumphs at Paris-Nice, podium at Liege-Bastogne-Liege and two German champion titles.
Recent years were a bit more modest for Schachmann who was often struggling with injuries and illnesses. However 2024 saw a slight rise in his performances, as witnessed at the Giro d'Italia where Schachmann finished second in the opening stage, adding a fifth place from a time trial - his other great weapon.
After six seasons, the collaboration between Schachmann and Red Bull -BORA - hansgrohe is coming to an end. Multiple sources confirm to WielerFlits that Schachmann is on his way to Jayco AlUla. The Australian formation will take over a second rider from their German counterpart as reports suggest Patrick Gamper will also make a move to Jayco.
Schachmann is the next German top rider to leave Ralph Denk's team. Emanuel Buchmann, who's been on bad terms with Denk since non-nomination for Giro d'Italia in spring, won't continue with the team. In addition Lennard Kämna is linked to Lidl-Trek. Thus the globalization of the formerly strictly German formation continues as their new deal with Red Bull sees their goal to settle on top of the cycling world take priority over the sense of "national pride".
