Jens Reynders has not yet selected a team for 2024, but is not gloomy about his future. The spots have already been taken within his current team, Israel-Premier Tech. But the 25-year-old rider remains optimistic.
"We are working hard on it," Reynders reveals to WielerFlits about his future. "I haven't signed anywhere yet but I am still working on a number of teams. There is also one WorldTeam, and several ProTeams. Hopefully it will be all set and done one of the next weeks."
"Maybe I waited too long. If I had signed in June or July, there would have been no problem. I then had a number of offers, after which I asked the team to wait a bit. But other than that, not many riders were at the end of their contracts. A number of our leaders also brought their own domestiques. And before I knew it, there were no more seats available. Israel is on the jersey, so they also had some young men from Israel sign for a lower wage."
"They wanted to keep me on board. They are still working on that now. The problem is: the UCI has imposed a limit of thirty riders. Previously, a team could increase that number to 33 if they recruited three neo-pros. But that is no longer the case."
