We know that
Tom Pidcock is
not going to willingly act as a domestique and that he will try to fight to stand as high as possible in the final classification in Nice. The British talent this year has been sixth in Algarve, ninth in Tirreno and sixth at Suisse. Additionally he won the Amstel Gold Race and finished 10th in Liège. Juan Larra thinks he would do better fighting for stages and the mountains classification, but he has made it clear time and again that he wants to see if he can win overall and we imagine he will give it his all.
The other two who could be leaders would be
Egan Bernal and
Geraint Thomas. 'G' comes from a podium in the Giro and has made it clear beforehand that he comes to Grande Boucle to help, although obviously if he ends up getting into the classification, anything could happen. Similarly the Colombian is a
carte blanche. Bernal has been showing increasingly better legs and could be the overall leader of INEOS at the Vuelta a Espana, however his insisted on riding the Tour instead. These four leaders will rely on experienced domestiques
Jonathan Castroviejo,
Laurens de Plus, Michael Kwiatkowski and
Ben Turner to guide them through the chaotic first stages safely.
