Pavel Sivakov has over the years been a rider who's struggled to achieve consistency but when he is at his best level he is capable of greatness. Last weekend he launched Tadej Pogacar to victory and was in the fight for the podium himself, and now he aims for his own triumph at the Tour of Guangxi.
"I've got one race left, I can head to China and see how I get on there, but I know I'm in really good shape. I wasn't initially down for this race in Italy, but I did Bernocchi, and felt so good that I asked the team if I could do Lombardia as well as the original plan of Guangxi," Sivakov told Cyclingnews. "It's the mental aspect of competition that really matters a lot, and I'm really motivated."
The Frenchman rode the Tour de France in support of the Slovenian and was a pivotal part of the collective triumph, whilst he then rode to ninth at the Vuelta a España himself. You'd think the fatigue would've caught up to him but in reality it seems to be the opposite as since, his performances have only looked stronger. At the World Championships, he was the final rider to see the wheel of Pogacar before he set off for the world title.
"I can't be happier with the season already. And having seen what I could do in Lombardy, I can be even more sure of my condition," he said after his result in Lombardia. "I'm at the best level since I turned pro and on top of that, Tadej has won." Alongside the likes of Tim Wellens and an in-form Igor Arrieta, UAE Team Emirates has serious chances of winning another World Tour event this week.
