Before the start of the prologue of the Tour de Romandie, a lot was expected from Thibau Nys, but the young Belgian from Lidl-Trek, just like many others, was no match for surprising winner Maikel Zijlaard at the end.
"It was a very strange time trial. I didn't quite know what to expect now," Nys looks back on his seasonal road debut with Cycling Pro Net. "It was important to just keep going at full speed from start to finish. But after crossing the finish line I immediately knew where I had lost time."
"I felt good, but it really comes down to seconds. Today was all about details. For example, I occasionally braked a little too much for a bend. So I lost some momentum coming out of the bend," Nys is self-critical.
"There are passages where you can go all out, but sometimes you have to hold back a little more. It is important to get a good sense of this and that did not always go well today. But more riders will have to deal with that."
