Giro d'Italia | Covid revealed to be reason behind Aleksandr Vlasov's DNF, Tesfatsion leave Giro with flu

Aleksandr Vlasov abandoned the Giro d'Italia during stage 10 and there were already suspicions, but no confirmation. However it was yesterday following his departure from the Corsa Rosa that he tested positive for Covid-19.

The Russian climber was in sixth place at the overall classification and in a legitimate position to attack the podium. It comes as a big strike to BORA - hansgrohe's ambitions, the Russian abandoned after clearly struggling at the start of the stage and being left isolated by the team.

It was already apparent what was to happen later on. Vlasov abandoned, and BORA-hansgrohe told Radsport-News that the 27-year old began to show symptoms last morning, but only following the race did a test reveal the infection.

Trek - Segafredo's Natnael Tesfatsion has also abandoned the race this morning with flu symptoms.
