Kim le Court has won the first stage of the 2025 Women's Tour of Britain! She finished ahead of Kristen Faulkner in a two women sprint to the finish, after timing her sprint to perfection at the end.
The race took the riders on an 81.5km hilly course from Dalby Forest to Redcar. With 10km to go, the Olympic Champion Kristen Faulkner and the Mauritian champion (and recent Liege-Bastogne-Liege winner) Kim Le Court were the duo in the breakaway, 24 seconds ahead of the chasing group. Could they hang on until the line?
With 7km to go, the gap to the chasers was still hanging around the 20 second mark. Le Court and Faulkner were helped a long by a strong tailwind, but Movistar and FDJ - Suez were pushing hard in the chase.
But try as the might, they could not close the gap the front two. In the end, it was Kim le Court who won the stage and takes the first leaders jersey ahead of Kristen Faulkner. Behind, Lorena Wiebes won the sprint for third.
Tomorrow's race will be another hilly one, a 114.3km stage that finishes in Bank, which has hosted the last 2 British national road championships.
