Anton Palzer made his professional debut with BORA-hansgrohe in 2021. In the same year, he was able to make his
Vuelta a Espana debut. Now the German rider hopes to make his first appearance in
Giro d'Italia next season.
"I would love to ride the Giro, that would really be a dream," Palzer told the Kleine Zeitung. He continues, "There are only three grand tours in cycling, and I got to ride the Vuelta a España last year. That was very important for my development."
In 2022 he didn’t get a chance to ride in Vuelta or any other grand tour. "This year, I didn't ride a grand tour. At first, I thought I would do the Vuelta again, but the team decided to send a group around sprinter Sam Bennett anyway. In the end, that turned out to be the right choice," said Palzer.
BORA-Hansgrohe recently announced pre-selection for the Giro, and Palzer was happy to find his name on the list. "I have a lot of Italian friends and have been there a lot. If you get the chance to ride the Giro, that would be something very special. But the team ultimately decides."
Palzer is no stranger to victories but is finding it hard to take victories for himself in the races. "We often ride with seven riders, and six of them work hard so that one person can ride a result. That's not always easy, because I'm not used to that. I was always successful in races, super successful even. I won World Cups and won several medals... But now, I am still an apprentice. I don't have many successes anymore, and that makes the situation special for me. But I strongly believe that success will come,” concluded Palzer.
