Erlend Blikra has won the sixth stage of the Tour de Langkawi. He attacked with 200 meters to go and maintained the lead to secure the first professional victory of his career.
The breakaway included Tiano Da Silva (Pro Touch), Thanakhan Chaiyasombat (Thailand CT), Willie Smit (China Glory), Kee Zhe Yie (Malaysia), Marco Lumanog and Junreck Carcueva (Philippines). The group of six took a lead of over 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
Alpecin-Deceuninck increased the pace in order to catch the breakaway, and Lotto-Soudal supported the move. The breakaway was caught 9 kilometres before the finish. Lotto-Soudal was trying hard to position Rudiger Selig for the sprint, while other teams were lagging behind with no formation. Erlend Blikra came out on top in the final sprint and took the first victory of his career. Gleb Syritsa once again put in an impressive performance but failed to grab the gold and satisfied himself with silver. Rudiger Selig finished third.
