Elisa Longo Borghini enjoys unexpected podium in Tour of Flanders - "Would never expect to be third in such a tough edition of De Ronde"

Crossing the finish line behind Lotte Kopecky and Demi Vollering, Elisa Longo Borghini claimed third place in the Tour of Flanders on Sunday.
“I have to be honest, I would never expect to be third in such a tough edition of De Ronde, especially after the forced rest I had to face over the last month,” she said on her team’s website. She continues, “I didn’t have great feelings for most of the day, and doing something useful was the minimum I could do.”
Lotte Kopecky had taken a commanding lead of 30 seconds, leaving her with no opportunity to claim the victory. “It was a hard race, and SD Worx made it even harder but at one point, you can’t focus too much on their jersey, if not, you don’t play your chances to win. I think we can be happy because, in the end, we did our own race, we stuck to the plan that Ina asked us to put in action and we raced to win.”
Her attention has now turned to the upcoming Paris-Roubaix Femmes event, where she intends to defend the title she previously earned. “Now, there’s Paris-Roubaix on the horizon and it will be another hard challenge to face but, personally, I’m starting to feel confident in my condition, maybe it’s better than I expected and there’s still a week to get ready for our trip to Hell and back. For the moment, it’s time to enjoy this unexpected podium with my Team,” concluded the Italian rider.

Between Pogacar and van der Poel, with their attacks from 50k and more, the racing is simply different. At the grand tours, it's that kind of attacking every day, as well (e.g., even when he didn't want to, other teams goaded Pogacar into racing for the win at the Tour). - Agree, it is incomplete to omit the doped peloton. Lance was just better at it, a bigger liar, and vindictively went after people to protect the secret. Look how many results had to be restated, where other riders were also stripped of their results, and the problems ex us postal riders faced because their doping programs were not as good as postal. - Not all riders in the peloton were using drugs, or using them to the same degree. Plenty of books published from cyclists saying they didn’t all get access to the same stuff whether they wanted it or not. Christophe Basons is just one of many who were outcast for not joining the program. Many new young riders were sent home if they didn’t abide by Lances rules. - I still can't believe how her teammates treated her that day. Her teammate literally sideswiped her and took her out and then after the race, the teammate claimed that she saw something yellow fall but she kept riding because she was going for the stage win (but finished 8th in the sprint).
