Cameron Wurf's Paris-Roubaix and half marathon challenge - "I have to raise my level by doing workouts like this"

Cameron Wurf participated in the Paris-Roubaix race and his role was to support his leader Filippo Ganna. Despite the race's immense difficulty, the Australian managed to finish it and then proceeded to run a half marathon.

During a conversation with Sporza, he disclosed the reason behind it. “I'm trying to improve my condition in view of the Ironman World Championships. After Roubaix, I would have liked to run a little more, but by now it was getting dark. During the last 80 kilometres of the bike race I was already thinking about my walking workout. Yes, I was tired, but I know that the level of triathlon has risen a lot and therefore I have to work hard to be among the best."

Last year he placed 11th in the Ironman World Championships and he wants to improve his result. “I fell short of expectations. That's why I have to raise my level by doing workouts like this. In this way, I will be able to be competitive again for the first 5 places or maybe for the podium.”

He almost completed the two parts of the ultra-triathlon with only swimming being left. “What I did on Sunday is quite similar to what an Ironman entails. There you cycle 180 kilometers and then a marathon. So, as soon as I completed the cycling race I immediately concentrated on walking training,” concluded Wurf.
