Bad weather forces organizers to cancel Memorial Marco Pantani last-minute

This Saturday is packed with high-level racing, and between the four main races set to take place in Europe, one has been cancelled as the race organizers could not ensure riders' safety at the Memorial Marco Pantani and have had to cancel the race due to bad weather conditions.

All riders and teams have made it to Abruzzo for what was to be one more chapter in the Italian Autumn classics, but the strong winds and rain have initially delayed the start, cancelling the first 52 kilometers of the race. Deeper into the morning however it became clear that the race could not be run, as organizers officially announced the race could not go forward.

The news come as a disappointment to those present, but safety was put as a priority. In the days following the conclusion of the World Championships the riders will return to Italy for another block of racing that culminates with Il Lombardia.
