Taking the victory on stage 8, EF Education-EasyPost's Ben Healy has already ensured that his Giro d'Italia will be considered a success. With two weeks racing still to go however, the Irishman is keen to continue testing himself.
"That win was a big goal for me this season, so it feels good to have ticked it off," the 22-year-old revealed as part of EF Education-EasyPost's rest day press conference. "To have already won in the first week of the Giro is a very nice burden that falls off the shoulders."
Taking part in the first Grand Tour of his career, everything to come will be a new experience for Healy across the next twelve stages and as the Irishman tries to determine what kind of a rider he ultimately is, Healy wants to seize any opportunity that presents itself. "There are still many opportunities for the whole team," he says. "We look forward to fighting with the team for what is to come.”
"What type of rider am I? One that wants to seize its opportunities," Healy continues. "I can handle quite a few types of races, but I have to see which races suit me best. As long as I can race the way I like to do, with a lot of attacks and an aggressive tactic. Then I think I can do my thing in several areas, although I would also like to test myself in the high mountains."
