56.792 | Filippo Ganna makes history at golden Hour Record attempt

It is a big day for Filippo Ganna, The Italian rider has finally realised his dream of creating a new UCI Hour record. He beat Dan Bigham’s record of 55.548 km. He created a new record of 56.792 km in 227 laps in one hour. The distance surpassed those logged by Chris Boardman in the now-banned Superman position from 1996, unifying the hour records.

Just like Dan BIgham had done earlier this year, Ganna rode a controlled effort which saw his pace increase throughout the hour. One of the world's best time-trialists combined with an incredible feat of engineering and the budget that INEOS Grenadiers allocated for the event have seen the Italian break the record.

The Italian broke Bigham's record by over a whole kilometer, but has also broken the absolute record which had been set by Chris Boardman in 1996, which had been set with a minor set of rules which allowed more extreme positions.
