While the before mentioned went on to finish in the top 7, Politt arrived to the finish line under the scenic Eiffel Tower nearly 20 minutes after the Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel.
The German was part of the breakaway, which would eventually be joined When Evenepoel joined up with the group up front, it meant the pace would skyrocket and Politt was one of the early victims of one such Belgian's uphill acceleration. That was the last time we saw the sympathic German on race camera.
However the story doesn't end here. Some stomach discomfort caught up to the German rouleur who opted for a sanitary stop at the famous Café des 2 Moulins in Montmartre. Leaving the café moments later, he could enjoy some extra cheering from the nearby crowds.
