"That really shouldn't happen certainly not as a Belgian champion" - Eli Iserbyt makes public apology to Ryan Kamp after cyclocross spat

The cyclocross season proper opened last weekend at Exact Cross Beringen. Although Lars van der Haar took victory, the big talking point afterwards was a nasty spat between Eli Iserbyt and Ryan Kamp mid race that led to the former's disqualification.

Their flashpoint came midway through the race as Iserbyt and Kamp almost came to physical blows after the crash, with the former even stomping hard on the latter's bike and then remonstrating angrily afterwards. A lap or so later, Iserbyt was spotted by cameras being spoken to by race commissaires. As mentioned, the result of that conversation with those in charge was a disappointing disqualification for the Belgian national cyclocross champion.

At a Belgian awards show, Iserbyt was hunted down by Het Laatste Nieuws and asked for comment on the whole debacle. "In retrospect, I simply saw that it was a big mistake on my part," the Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal star told HLN. "It was an unguarded moment, a wild reaction. That really shouldn't happen during such a sporting event, certainly not as a Belgian champion. I really do realise that."

This thankfully, seems to be the end of the matter too as Iserbyt reveals he has apologised to Kamp. "The apologies have also been made to Ryan, to the team, and also to the organisation," Iserbyt says insisting his regret. "To many people: I really do realise that it's not done. I myself am now looking forward to the next cross and am trying to start training again with good courage."
