The decisive moment of Gent-Wevelgem came 52 kilometers from the finish line with a brutal attack by Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte that left their rivals without any possible reaction. That was the decisive moment of the race.
The two Jumbo-Visma riders went solo and, from there, set a pace that allowed them to build up a big lead over their rivals. The Jumbo-Vismo riders were overwhelmingly strong for the competition and took off with a gap that reached as much as two minutes. In the end, the victory went to the Frenchman after a dialogue with the Belgian before the finish line.
