The 79th edition of the Circuito de Getxo was held in the Basque Country this Sunday afternoon in the blistering summer sun. Heading into the finale, Lidl-Trek's Juan Pedro Lopez was looking good, but sadly a big crash on a pacey descent ended all hopes for the Spaniard.
On the final ascent of the Alto Pike, there was a flurry of attacks, with an elite group containing Juan Pedro Lopez, Quinn Simmons, Javier Romo, Clement Champoussin and Maxim van Gils going clear with a narrow gap from the peloton by the top of the climb. Sadly though, as mentioned, when things started coming back together on the descent, Lopez was the victim of a very scary slide out at speed.
