Marco Frigo was the pleasant surprise of the Giro d'Italia stage 15. The 23-year-old Italian from Israel-Premier Tech finished third from the leading group behind Brandon McNulty and Ben Healy.
Frigo had to let McNulty and Healy go on the last categorized climb, but eventually managed to get back. On the last slope before Bergamo he had to let go again, but came back again in the final kilometer. “I closed the gap with a good descent. I distributed my energy well on the last flat part of the final,” said the Italian, who is making his Grand Tour debut.
When Frigo returned he tried to win the stage with a lunge attempt, but it was countered. “When the front riders started looking at each other, I closed the gap and tried to play the game as best as possible. I'm not disappointed, but I could almost touch the victory. This is very positive and we will definitely try again,” the young rider concluded.
