Jasper Philipsen plays down critics: "I don't think you should scroll a lot on social media"

After the first week in the Tour de France, Jasper Philipsen has three stage victories in his pocket. Thanks to his fast legs and strong lead-outs from Mathieu van der Poel, he is also in a very comfortable position to win the points classification as he explains in an interview for WielerFlits.

"We just have a very strong team this year. In the Tour last year, Jonas Rickaert was quickly out and Mathieu did not ride in this role either. That is already a big difference. I also think that I have personally taken a step, especially physically. In the spring I was able to show good things a few times. I also think that sometimes I am a bit fresher at the end of the sprint."

Philipsen confirms that Van der Poel's contribution is key to his success. "Indeed. He's a big part of my success anyway. This is also thanks to him. It just makes it much easier. I think we are a very good match in that regard. That of course makes it much easier for myself."

"We also live a bit in our own bubble here. So I can put it off quite easily. I don't think you should scroll a lot on social media, because you will come across a lot of negative reactions there. I don't think we should let ourselves be caught and distracted by that," Philipsen doesn't make much of the online criticism.
