Il Lombardia will have to make do without the Civiglio climb this year as landslide makes the road unsafe to use

The Civiglio climb won't be part of the iconic course of Il Lombardia. The landslide of mid-May made it impossible to use the climb safely. And, above all, the expert reports have not provided any guarantee regarding safety, which will be restored only after the intervention on the slope, planned in the coming months and expected to be completed by the end of November.

Confirmation comes from the mayor Alessandro Rapinese: "We have already met with the organizers for the route and with them we are studying the alternatives with the aim of guaranteeing the race and the arrival in Como. We are collaborating so that it is still exciting despite the impossibility of passing through Civiglio."

At the beginning of September there will probably be a new meeting between the organizers and the administration to arrive at the definition of the alternative route, which could pass through several laps of the San Fermo or a "easier" arrival in the city with changes in other areas of the province.

Italian outlet La Provinicia reminds that it's not rare to see modification at the race. Changes had already been made in the past, always due to roads closed due to landslides. For example, in 2018 the route was changed due to the impossibility of passing through Valfresca due to a landslide that occurred in the previous months
