"I hope that I can win Paris-Roubaix one day" - Jasper Philipsen on his future goals

In 2023, no rider won more road races than Alpecin-Deceuninck's Belgian sprint star, Jasper Philipsen. A total of 19 victories tally a very successful season and the 25-year-old is keen to keep the good times rolling in 2024.

Among Philipsen's best performances this year were four stage wins at the Tour de France as he secured himself the Green Jersey for the first time in his career. “I would like to go to the Tour again in the coming years,” says Philipsen when quizzed about his goals for the future by Sporza. “I am now at my top in terms of sprint, but in terms of content I can still take further steps.”

Although he may be the premier sprinter in the peloton today, Philipsen has also proven to be much more than just a fast man as proven when he finished second at Paris-Roubaix behind teammate Mathieu van der Poel earlier this year. "I have already heard from my team boss Christoph Roodhooft that Paris-Roubaix is planned for next year," he continues. "This year I rode a good race there and I always liked that race with the youth as well. I hope that I can win Paris-Roubaix one day."

The grand total of 19 wins is a very impressive tally for Philipsen, something no other rider can match. “That title of Victorious King looks great on my CV,” he says. “After the Tour we were still looking for a goal. The most obvious thing was to go for as many wins as possible. It was a nice goal and it kept me motivated for a long time. My last victories were of course not in the biggest competitions. But winning is always difficult and I just like to win in large and small races.”
