Marlen Reusser has delivered to her promise and managed to defend her title at the European Time Trial Championships on Wednesday. It is her second victory in the championships, she first won in 2021.
"My radio didn't work, and it didn't feel like it was my day," Reusser said. She continues, "I also rode without my Garmin, and I had the feeling I didn't have the legs to win.” Although she was not feeling it, she delivered a stunning performance and finished five seconds ahead of Ellen van Dijk.
Reusser was able to breathe a sigh of relief, seeing she was able to compete against Lisa Brennauer, which meant her form is not bad at all. "Mentally, it was good to see Lisa riding in front of me. I didn't hear any split times, but I did know that Lisa is a good time trialist. So that did help me, and I have to thank Lisa for that," said Reusser.
She did not forget to thank her teammates in the end. "I am super happy with this gold medal. But I must also say that I am grateful to the people who helped me with my aerodynamics. I have had a new cockpit on my time trial bike since this spring. It took a while, but it had to fall into place. This bike is very fast, I could feel that today. But this victory is not just mine, it's real teamwork," concluded Reusser.
