In 2018, Boyes set a USA Cycling record for the 500 meter “track time trial – flying start,” in Aguascalientes, Mexico and has been described by a family spokesperson as "a very experienced cyclist and well regarded in the cycling community."
"This is a pretty devastating loss for the family and for the San Francisco cycling community," Shaana Rahman, a spokesperson for the family, told The San Francisco Chronicle. According to the U.S. Park Police, the incident remains under investigation and they refused to reveal whether the driver of the vehicle had been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
