Danny van Poppel and BORA - hansgrohe agreed on a long-term contract extension. The 29-year old Dutch rider transformed into invaluable lead-out man, leading Fabio Jakobsen to European title in 2022, among many other successes.
"I am very happy and also proud that I've been able to extend my contract with BORA - hansgrohe. I have ridden for different teams in the past, but I finally feel that I have found the perfect team, both for me as a rider and as a person. My teammates and the team staff provide me with an excellent environment. I'm also grateful that the team has given me the chance to develop as a lead-out rider, and I think I'm now at a very high level thanks to that trust. I can't wait to continue on this path together with the team," said Van Poppel in official statement.
"Danny has become a permanent fixture in our team. Currently, he is likely the best lead-out rider in the peloton, but for us he is also an important all-rounder and a leader. Many of our riders can benefit from his experience and with him in the lead-out, every sprinter becomes better. So there was no question that we wanted to keep Danny at BORA - hansgrohe and I am glad that we have achieved this. This extension is an important cornerstone of our squad planning for the coming years," adds Ralph Denk.

This article is interesting though, and suggests Jonas is making very good financial decisions, acquiring luxury homes that he and his family are enjoying living in, and staying near family (also now in luxury homes) who can help with the kids. - I assume Plapp will be about as popular as a fart in a gas mask this season on the team bus. What an absolute clown shoe. Attacking his own team-mate with a lap and a half to go, bringing back his rivals with you, then fluffing it yourself to let the other guy win. You’d assume that if they had race radios, the DS would be telling Plapp to stop p*sing on Durbo’s chips, but at the same time you’d also expect a World Tour rider to understand this kind of basic racecraft. Jonas has a Vuelta, 2 Tours and no Giro, you said it yourself so - Go figure. Has he ruled out the Tour? Am convinced if Tadej decides to do the Giro, Jonas won’t cancel, it’s nothing to do with dodging, it’s about deciding for himself and not living for others. Jonas has offered plenty of competition to Tadej, it’s not his only purpose or obligation.
