Carlos Rodriguez does not rule out racing the Vuelta a Espana: "The plan was not to be there, but you never know"

Carlos Rodriguez finished the Tour de France 2024 1:44 behind Matteo Jorgenson, the race leader at the time the INEOS Grenadiers rider crossed the finish line. In the general classification, he has not moved and remains in seventh place after the final time trial.

"Well, hard, as expected, I pushed as hard as I could, as much as the body allowed me, so nothing. Happy to have left everything I had, the truth is that we are leaving this Tour, not with the result we expected but we have to be happy to have given everything, to have prepared as well as possible, I think that's all that could be asked of me. So nothing, happy and nothing, looking forward to the next Tour and arrive better prepared," he tells our CiclismoAlDia colleagues at the finish line.

"I will do everything in my power again and hopefully everything will go better. I think that my health has not been good, my body did not allow me to push myself to the limit. I was always missing a point compared to the previous weeks but well, everything can never be perfect. Sometimes things work out and sometimes they don't. We'll have to see how the body recovers, at first the plan was not to be in the Vuelta but well, you never know what can happen," he concluded.

In the end his performance on the day was only enough to reach the 17th best time on the day, losing nearly four minutes on stellar Tadej Pogacar. In regards to GC, nothing changes for Rodriguez, who was unable to defend his 5th place overall from 2023.
