I grew up idolizing him. Watched the races, bought his book, bought the Trek I could afford at the time. Watched the news as others in the sport would call out foul play, particularly the rivalry with Lemond. I'd find myself defending him passionately against friends explaining how recovery from cancer made him Superman. I can understand cyclists who did it because behind the scenes it was expected. To them, as a fan, I accept and forgive. But, Lance lied over and over and over. Enboldened by getting away with it, he bullied and amassed a following. When he came out accepting he cheated I cried, as if my girlfriend had broke up with me. No, Ullrich and Pantani do not deserve to be seen in the same shadow as Armstrong. As a fan I can't forget.
