34-year-old Belgian Tom Meeusen has officially called time on his professional career. Taking to Instagram he announced "I quit. This time really, thanks to everyone for the beautiful years."
In his last race on December 10th at the Robotland Cyclocross in Essen, Meeusen would finish in a respectable 8th position. In his retirement message however, the Belgian alludes to the fact that his performance levels weren't where he had hoped. "I tried to turn the tide again in Essen, but I have to be honest with myself. The max is out"
Having finished in the top 10 at the cyclocross World Championship no fewer than five times, Meeusen can also look back proudly on a brace of World Cup races and four Superprestige wins. "I have been able to stop in silence with many people around me that I like. Thank you for the beautiful years.”
