Thibau Nys started on Saturday as one of the top favorites in the Hexia Cross in Gullegem, but after almost an hour of cycling he had to settle for fourth place after a fierce battle with Joran Wyseure.
"I am a bit disappointed with that, but on the other hand I am satisfied that I could ride a good race again. After Koksijde it is mentally good," he briefly looks back on his twentieth place in the sand in conversation with VTM News.
At the beginning of the cyclo-cross, Nys tried to follow the eventual winner Vanthourenhout. "That was actually a lap where I was having a slightly harder time, so he shifted two teeth bigger and was able to pull away quite easily. It quickly became clear who was the best."
It was certainly a great day for Nys in the mud in Gullegem. "If I had chosen a course that was a little better suited to my body, I might have been able to compete a little longer for that victory. I am satisfied with the shape I am in now and everything just has to fall right. That could be at the Belgian Championships, but that is very difficult to predict."
