First he'd have to surpass Hinault who let's see won 10 grand tours. 5 TDF, 3 Giros and 2 Vueltas. In winning 10 grand tours he won 41 stages. Throw in the World Championship in 1980 in Sallanches, considered by many still as the most difficult World Championship ever contested, Gent- Wevelgem, 3 Dauphine-Liberes, 5 Grand Prix des Nations, Tour of Romandie, Tour of Lombardy twice. Liege twice, one by 10 minutes in a snowstorm. Only 21 riders even finished. Fleche twice. Oh and speaking of twice, the author is right Merckx was capable of winning on the Champs Elysees but he never did. To this day the only yellow jersey to win on the Champs was... wait for it, Bernard Hinault, twice.

Yeah Merckx was a bum riding against farmers. Let's have Colnago replicate Merckx's track bike exactly and see if Pogi can beat his hour record on it. Who is this guy ? If he's 53 he isn't even Merckx's generation. For that matter he isn't even Hinault's generation.
