Update: No serious injuries for Simone Velasco following Veneto Classic crash but "stitches on his chin, lip and tibia"

Italian national champion Simone Velasco has been rushed to hospital after a nasty crash on a descent at the 2024 Veneto Classic.

The 27-year-old of Astana Qazaqstan Team had entered the race with big hopes for success in the race that was eventually won by Davide Formolo ahead of UAE Team Emirates teammate Marc Hirschi. Sadly for Velasco, a nasty crash put an end to any hopes of glory.

"Unfortunately, our Simone Velasco crashed and was ported to the hospital with light cranial and facial trauma," announced an official post by the X (Twitter) account of the Astana Qazaqstan Team. "He will pass all necessary exams and the medical staff will decide if he need to stay the night in the hospital."

UPDATE

Thankfully, an update from the Astana Qazaqstan Team gave some positive news. After the checks in hospital, Velasco suffered no serious injuries. "He had stitches on his chin, lip and tibia. He was also diagnosed with two partially broken incisor teeth. Fortunately, no other serious injuries. We wish you fast recovery, Simone!"
