Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal rider Fem Van Empel made it four from four with victory in Maasmechelen. She distanced herself from Puck Pieterse and Shirin van Anrooij in the last lap and secured the victory. This is her sixth victory of the season.
"This was the hardest race of the season. It was really a tough fight," Van Empel said post-race interview. She continues, "I got to the front quickly and had a good opening lap. On the last slope, I saw I had a gap on Puck Pieterse and went full throttle to the finish. Before the bars, I hoped to have a gap on Pieterse, I succeeded."
Van Empel described the race as the hardest of the season and said she gave everything she had to win. "It was a very difficult competition, the course did not bulge at all. Everyone did her part, and we made it a great race. No matter who had won, everyone would have loved each other," Van Empel concluded.
