The wildcards for the 2023
Tour de France have been decided and attributed. The Grand Boucle will receive, without big surprises,
Israel - Premier Tech and
Uno-X Pro Cycling Team who have applied for the remaining two spots available.
The season is yet to start however the decisions have been made. Following the collapse of B&B Hotels - KTM, a home team which has for the last years been present at the race, the choices were obvious.
Lotto Soudal and
TotalEnergies will capitalize on their automatic wildcards, coming from the fact that they are the two ProTeam level squads that scored the most UCI points throughout the 2022 season.
Outside of those, there seemed to be little competition for the two spots remaining. Uno-X Pro Cycling Team of Tobias Johannessen and Alexander Kristoff, and Israel - Premier Tech of Chris Froome will be at the Grand Depart in Bilbao this summer.
"We are looking forward to racing in the sport’s most important and difficult race, the Tour de France, this July," Israel - Premier Tech owner Sylvan Adams said in a press release. "We hope to build on our success of last summer where we won two stages, including one of the most difficult on the mythical cobbles of the Paris-Roubaix course."
"Israel – Premier Tech was one of only six teams that won at least two stages at last year’s race, and we will be hunting for more success in the 2023 edition. We will be dangerous and strong, I promise, and hope to bring winning joy to our many fans around the world, and especially in Israel," he concluded.
