INEOS Grenadiers might have a big problem on its hands, as it seemingly continues to have under contract David Rozman, one of the team's long-standing soigneurs who this summer was revealed to have connections with a disgraced German doctor Mark Schmidt who was the head of a doping ring in the 2010's.
The ARD documentary 'Doping Top Secret: In the Slipstream' provided extensive insight into an investigation on a doping ring that was led my Mark Schmidt. In 2021, he was sentenced to five years in prison after the conclusion that he worked with several pro riders in the 2000's and 2010's, and he was likely aided by David Rozman.
Rozman is said to be the staff member that was in contact with Schmidt before the 2012 Tour de France, in which INEOS (at the time Team Sky) took its first Tour victory, the first of many as the British team dominated the Grand Tours in that decade. The documentary came out during the 2025 Tour de France and Rozman was present at the race, but was asked to leave whilst the team avoided most questions regarding the Slovenian soigneur. But he has not been fired by the team despite the controversy that it brings to the British outfit and as of today, he continues to be featured on the team's website as staff member.
Recently, Geraint Thomas was asked about the topic in an interview with The Guardian, in which he defended the team's perspective on the matter: "I wasn’t surprised that he knew some doctor that ended up being a bit suspect. But just because you know someone doesn’t mean you’re guilty. I was surprised at how quickly it blew up and the bad press he was getting." However, the questions are not stopping anytime soon it seems, as the teams gear up for the 2026 season and INEOS remain attached to the controversial figure.
