Cofidis wastes no time and announces signing of Sylvain Moniquet and Valentin Ferron for next two years

Team Cofidis is wasting no time and as soon as the 2024 transfer window opened, they already announced three additions (and also two departures) to their roster for next two years.

The first new name in the street is Sylvain Moniquet. The 26-year-old Belgian has already proved himself as a rider with quality in races with lots of climbing and will be Cofidis' important card for GC at smaller races as well as the Ardennes classics.

"Cofidis is a team that I really like. It has an attacking mentality with a lot of climbers and punchers who have been part of the team. That's really motivating! After four years at Lotto Dstny, I was keen to wear a new jersey and set myself new goals," Moniquet expressed in a press release.

"I'm more of a climber-puncher and I like difficult one-day races or stages in the 2nd and 3rd week of big Tours that are conducive to breakaways. I also want to discover races. We're entering the years when I should be at my best and I can't wait to give it my all in my new colours!"

Team manager Cédric Vasseur added his view: "Sylvain Moniquet is a rider we have been following for a while. He has enormous potential and is now entering his prime. Since his time as a professional, his progress has been constant and we want to offer him the opportunity to reach a new milestone in his career."

Another 26-years-old to join the ranks of Cofidis from 2025 is Frenchman Valentin Ferron. And just like Moniquet, he sees his main potential in hilly races, looking back at 13th place from the 2023 Amstel Gold Race. The TotalEnergies rider might also become a valuable addition to Cofidis' French Cup races lineup. His profile seems like a perfect fit for those.

Also Ferron will look for his chances in punchy races: "I have more of an baroudeur profile but I am an all-round rider: I like exhausting races where you have to take the breakaways. My dream, of course, is to win a stage of the Tour de France. But I also hope to discover races like the Giro, the races in Australia, the Quebec-Montreal."

Vasseur looks forward to working with Ferron: "Valentin's profile is perfectly suited to the team's program and way of racing. He is also entering his best years and embarking on a new project will boost his career. We want to introduce him to new races and allow him to continue his progression at the highest level."
