Alejandro Valverde will be returning to competition next week, as he looks to ride a block of Spanish races in preparation for the Vuelta a España after the crash that he's suffered earlier this month.
In the beginning of July Valverde was the victim of a hit-and-run alongside two training partners close to home in Murcia, which has seen him taken to a hospital, however without any major consequences. The crash came after the national championships, and before the start of the final part of the season, giving the veteran the opportunity to calmly recover from the injuries and return to racing as scheduled.
Team manager Eusebio Unzué told Spanish newspaper MARCA that “Alejandro had a few problems, and there were some COVID cases within his family. His debut will probably be at Castilla y León next week".
Currently, Valverde is scheduled to ride the Vuelta a Castilla y León in the 27th and 28th of July, and the Clásica San Sebastián on the 30th. As he gears up for his final Vuelta a España, he is set to race to the Vuelta a Burgos as many others will do.
