Alejandro Valverde has been a victim of a hit-and-run accident this morning, where he and two of his training companions were hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.
This happened near Alcantarilla, Murcia, where the 42-year old had been training alongside two other riders. As is being reported by Spanish media, the three riders were hit by a driver, which then drove away from the location. He's reported to be in stable condition, and has been transported to the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital.
After a busy section to his season, Valverde was training near home recovering, before setting his sights towards the latter part of the season. Consequences from this crash are not yet known, the same can be said of his racing calendar on the final season.
