Today was his third win, after triumphs in Calais and Lausanne. After several wins and many more podium places, plenty breakaways and a lot of work towards the fight for the overall classification, van Aert will have the spotlight on him after this Tour where almost all pieces of
Jumbo-Visma's plan fell into place. The Belgian was the fastest at today's time-trial, beating his own teammate Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar in the hills of southern France.
"I gave it all today. I want to win races and today I hoped to take the stage and J to secure the yellow jersey. Apparently… he’s got such a big heart! It was a really fast TT, I had to keep something left for the two hard climbs at the end. I paced my effort well. Technically I made no mistake," he explained. "It’s a special setting coming to the top of this village. It was a great day.”
Tomorrow's expected bunch sprint into the Champs-Élysées will be another day where the Belgian rider could fight for the win, however
Jumbo-Visma have taken all the wins they could hope for along these three weeks and the riders will likely take the opportunity to enjoy the day.
"I thank all my team mates and the whole team for those special three weeks, it’s unbelievable. I feel super tired after three weeks," van Aert concluded.
